Trust

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

I’m sure most of us have played a trust building game sometimes referred to as leading the blind. If you have not or do not know what I am referring to, basically you blindfold one person and attempt to navigate them through an obstacle course with only your words (If you have not tried this, I recommend that you do. It is a great way to help communicate the importance of our words and for building trust). When blindfolded, it takes a certain degree of trust in the person guiding you that they will not steer you into danger and will be leading you on the correct path. Although trust is an aspect of this activity, I would argue that most of us can do it just fine. In terms of a trivial game with very little risk at all, it is very easy for us to trust. Unfortunately, when applied to our lives and the relationships we have, trusting others can be a bit more difficult.

It is true that people may at times fail us, let us down, or leave us out to dry, but our heavenly Father above will never do that to us. Let me try and put things into scope, God created the entire universe consisting of all that we see around us. He knew every person before they were in their mother’s womb and has good plans for each of us. The same God created 228 separate and distinct muscles in a caterpillar’s head. He also placed over 3,000 different species of trees within one square mile in the amazon jungle. He also knows every hair on your head.
How can we imagine such a great and grandiose God and think that He is not in control of our life? How is it that we can forget that the God, who is in control of the entire universe, is capable of caring for us? And when we are to come face to face with the fact that God is truly omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent, why do we feel that He is not worthy of our trust? Or even take Him in consideration when we make decisions, big or small, in our lives? King Solomon reminds us that when we trust in God and no longer lean on our own power, understanding, and will, God will make our paths straight and correct. All we need to do is believe.
